Many ophthalmological disorders are clearly caused by lesions in
the ascending or descending visual pathway but often the origin
remains initially cryptic. Differentiation between degenerative,
inflammatory, immunologic, toxic, oncologic, vascular, metabolic,
developmental and other causes and their location as well as the
definition of optimal diagnostic procedures and treatment often
requires particular interdisciplinary strategies where the primary
responsibility is with the ophthalmologist. Such strategies will be
elucidated by exemplarily treating and discussing typical neuroophthalmological
diseases and cases, followed by a panel discussion.
