Current f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs provide evidence that dysregulation of lipid pathways<br />
plays an important role <strong>in</strong> the pathogenesis of numerous ret<strong>in</strong>al<br />
diseases <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g age related macular degeneration and<br />
diabetic ret<strong>in</strong>opathy. At the same time, certa<strong>in</strong> lipids and their metabolites<br />
may have positive effects on disease progression <strong>in</strong> the<br />
same disor<strong>der</strong>s. This symposium reflects the current level of<br />
knowledge regard<strong>in</strong>g the role of lipids <strong>in</strong> pathogenesis and therapy<br />
of ret<strong>in</strong>al diseases.<br />
