This symposion directly after the Pupil Colloquium from September
25 to 28, 2011 in Tübingen, will make new information relevant for
the ophthalmologist available for the participants. One subject will
certainly be the role of the melanopsin ganglion cells for the pupil.
Much research has been done on this field and more will follow: It
seems possible to elicit sustained pupillary responses with blue
light in blind retinitis pigmentosa patients. Differentiation of optic
neuropathies and new insights in pupillary function may be possible.
Randy Kardon from Iowa City who did a lot of research with
such patients will present the “state of the art”.
