sights: Westminster Abbey and the West End, the Changing of
the Guards, the Houses of Parliament, Whitehall, The Horse
Guards, Downing Street 10, Traffalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus
and Buckingham Palace. In the afternoon we spent some time
in Covent Garden. After such a strenuous day everybody was
happy about the relaxing weekend with the host families. On
Monday we met again at the school cafeteria and all the boys
talked busily about their adventurous weekend. Surprisingly
most of the boys had chosen to attend German classes at Whitgift
at 8 o’clock in the morning, although they could have slept
longer instead. But being taught German at an English school is
more interesting than German lessons at the Löhe school, isn’t
it? Well, Monday was a gorgeous day, since we did a Cruise on
the Thames from Westminster Bridge to Greenwich, where we
visited the Royal Observatory and the village of Greenwich. The
following day we saw the HMS Belfast anchored just in front of
the famous Tower of London and Tower Bridge. The view on
both sights was fantastic. However, the highlight of the
exchange was the tour to Brighton by train. We were overwhelmed
by the beauty of Brighton Pavillion and enjoyed the
guided tour through the pavillion, which looks like an Indian
palace, very much. Furthermore we were impressed by the
Lanes, the Pier and the seaside. Thursday was a holiday:
Founder’s Day. So our students could stay at home and enjoy
a nice day with their host families. Friday was our last day at
Whitgift and it was a real school day, as we spent the morning
at school, had lessons and got an impression of a normal
school day at Whitgift. In the afternoon all boys, English and
German, were invited to play sport together in the Sports Hall.
Finally, at 4 pm our group left Whitgift and we were driven to
Stansted to catch our plane back to Nuremberg. All of us were
happy about having taken part in this exchange and we won’t
forget it easily.
