<strong>La</strong> <strong>Loupe</strong> he explained the<br />
attraction of the traditional<br />
tournament and provided<br />
insights into the 73 rd edition.<br />
L.L. / Mr. Antonitsch, not only have<br />
you been tournament director of the<br />
ATP event in <strong>Kitzbühel</strong>, you also used<br />
to be a tennis pro. Do you still get<br />
excited when watching the Generali<br />
Open or is it all routine to you by<br />
now?<br />
A.A. / <strong>No</strong>, that’s definitely not the case. I have one habit: no<br />
matter if I’m tournament director or commentator, certain<br />
matches are simply too exciting. It’s sport, it’s emotional, and<br />
that’s the way it’s supposed to be.<br />
Single or double?<br />
Double.<br />
This is my tip for tennis newcomers:<br />
Ambition aside, what’s most important is to<br />
have fun playing tennis.<br />

L.L. / Since 1945 <strong>Kitzbühel</strong> has been the host town of the ATP<br />
tournament. Why is it that the legendary athletic town and<br />
the traditional tournament make such a good match?<br />
A.A. / It certainly is a very traditional event. You can feel it<br />
when you see old pictures. Plus, it also helped get people back<br />
to <strong>Kitzbühel</strong>. There’s high-class tennis to be seen in a unique<br />
atmosphere. And, of course, the city around the tournament<br />
has a lot to offer.<br />
L.L. / The first players for the Generali Open 2017 are already<br />
known. Pros like David Ferrer, Pablo Cuevas and Philipp<br />
Kohlschreiber will be there. What is it that makes the competition<br />
in <strong>Kitzbühel</strong> so special for the players?<br />
A.A. / As I said, <strong>Kitzbühel</strong> has a great atmosphere for both the<br />
players and the fans. The motto here is: Be right in the middle,<br />
not just on the sidelines. The Generali Open is a tournament<br />
that’s not hectic, players love it because of the short distances<br />
and wonderful surroundings. Tennis in this atmosphere and<br />
in this landscape – you cannot not enjoy it …<br />
Emotionale Matches beim Generali Open*<br />
L.L. / With Jürgen and Gerald Melzer at least two Austrians<br />
will be part of <strong>Kitzbühel</strong>’s peloton. How are the chances for<br />
the alpine republic this year?<br />
A.A. / Of course Dominic Thiem will be sorely this year, but<br />
we’re hoping to be able to welcome him in <strong>Kitzbühel</strong> again<br />
soon. With Jürgen and Gerald we have two top players from<br />
Austria.<br />
