Als erster Schuhhersteller der Welt
hat AKU für seinen BELLAMONT
PLUS eine Environmental Product
Declaration Certification (EPD®) anfertigen
lassen. Diese unabhängige Typ-III-Umweltdeklaration
wird nur für Produkte ausgestellt,
die strenge Angaben zu ihrem
jeweiligen Umwelteinfluss bereitstellen
können. Die international vergleichbare
Zertifizierung berücksichtigt jeden einzelnen
Produktionsschritt von der Gewinnung
der Rohmaterialien („upstream“),
über die eigentliche Anfertigung und
Distribution („core“) bis hin zum Umwelteinfluss
des ausgedienten Schuhs. Für die
EPD® Zertifizierung – die am Ende eines
zwölfmonatigen Prozesses steht – mussten
neben AKU auch sämtliche Partner, unter
anderem die renommierte DANI Gerberei,
Daten über den Umwelteinfluss jedes
einzelnen Schritts dokumentieren.
„Wir wollen Händlern wie auch Endkonsumenten
zeigen, dass AKU einen
verantwortungsvollen und transparenten
Ansatz in puncto Produktdesign und
Produktion verfolgt“ erklärt Giulio Piccin,
AKU Product and Sustainablility Manager.
„Darüberhinaus dienen die neu gewonnen
Daten der EPD® Zertifizierung auch der
zukünftigen Planung, wenn es darum geht,
den Umwelteinfluss weiter zu verringern,
zum Beispiel durch effizientere Produktion
oder den Einsatz von weniger umweltbelastenden
Rohstoffen.“ Als erste Outdoormarke,
die diesen Schritt gegangen ist,
hofft AKU auch andere Marken zu mehr
Transparenz und einem umweltbewussteren
Fertigungsprozess zu inspirieren.
As the first outdoor brand ever,
AKU has submitted its bestselling
Bellamont Plus to the strict and wide-ranging
measurements of the Environmental
Product Declaration system (EPD®).
The international award takes into consideration
every step of the production process
to compile a fully transparent picture of the
environmental impact of this travel and
urban outdoor shoe. This means every step
from how the raw materials are produced
(upstream) to the product assembly and
distribution process itself (core) and finally
the impact at the end of the product’s life
(downstream) finds its way into the report.
To collect this enormous amount of data
over a 12-month period not only AKU, but
all of its partners along the whole supply
BELLAMONT PLUS
chain – like the renowned DANI tannery –
had to be involved, too.
“We want to give retailers and consumers
a documented reassurance that we as a
brand have a transparent and responsible
approach to product design and production
processes” explains Giulio Piccin, AKU Product
and Sustainability Manager, on why
the brand undertook this incredible effort.
“Obviously, we will also use the collected
data to examine which steps of our production
can still be enhanced to reduce the
environmental impact and react according
the outcomes of the report.” As first brand
from the outdoor sector AKU hopes to set
a good example for other brands to follow,
examine and improve the environmental
sustainability of their production.
