What were to happen if companies such as
The North Face, Gore-Tex or the Fenix Group
suddenly demanded more influence? Last year’s
discussions surrounding bringing forward the
OutDoor show the explosive force that could one
day blow up the group. Apparel producers simply
have other production and order rhythms than shoe
or pole manufacturers. And what use is a collective
exhibition if not all can present their novelties?
“The main thing is us sticking together“, is
(still) said. But what would happen if the shoe
manufacturers or hardware specialists were to
detach themselves from the EOG and found an own
exhibition? What if the large purchase associations
were to no longer participate and the retailers
“moved away” entirely to Heilbronn or Mainhausen?
And what may come when Mark Held retires this
year as was announced? The knowledge of the own
vulnerability and the fight against “enemies” outside
the group is still keeping the group’s members
together. In “Angels and Demons” that was the
Catholic Church. And that is still existent – other
than the fictional secret society in Dan Brown’s best
seller novel. As well as the elements water, earth, air
and fire. But in which direction are they leading the
European Outdoor Group? >
