HIV
guy. On the other hand,
I know that I tend to
think too much.
I waited too much
for the right moment
and I think I just
missed it.
Do you experience discrimination
when dating
because you are HIV
positive? I would rather
call it ignorance. Often
when you tell someone,
there is simply no more
feedback or the topic is
kept silent. It‘s always
a balancing act. I‘ve tried
both: direct confrontation
but also slowly building
trust and only then talking
about my status. Personally,
I think the silence and being
ignored are worse than
direct rejection.
What is also noticeable
is that many men are not
really well informed. Some
people ask me if it is safe to
kiss me. Of course that‘s ok!
And since PrEP has existed,
I‘ve often heard that they
want to have sex with men
on PrEP, but not with someone
who is HIV positive.
This is very confusing for me
because you end up taking
similar medications and the
risk is basically the same.
And how do you explain it
to someone who doesn‘t see
or understand it that way?
It depends on how open the
other person is. At some
point, you get tired of having
to have this discussion and
do the convincing-- especially
when the other person
has their opinion and doesn‘t
want to know anything
else. To many, it just sounds
better when someone is
negative on PrEP than positive
on therapy. The risk of
contracting HIV from either
of them remains the same.
It‘s kind of ironic, but mostly
sad that HIV still carries
such a stigma.
Isn‘t it also difficult to be
completely authentic in an
environment like Prince
Charming? Not necessarily
so, but it is definitely a
stressful situation. Every
candidate wants to show
himself from his best side,
everyone wants the prince‘s
attention. The pressure to
get noticed is very high. If
you‘re boring, you’re out.
Is that why the Prince let
you go in the third episode?
Well, it was a surprise for
many in the villa, but it was
probably also because the
prince is more into the twinky
sweet types. I‘m not that
sad either, the experience
was just amazing.
What did you take home
for yourself? I met really
exciting people and made
some friends there. I also
have to say that I‘m really
proud of everyone who took
part in the season. Everyone
is unique and I realized once
again how great, diverse and
beautiful our community is.
