u-blox Technology at Heart of NetModule’s Automotive
Telematics Solution
u-blox, a global provider of
leading positioning and wireless
communication technologies,
and NetModule, a leading
manufacturer of communication
products for M2M, Telematics
and IoT, today announced their
partnership in the development
of modular, multifunctional
automotive gateways for telematics
applications. NetModule’s
NG800 automotive gateway
platform, available for various
products, features the ublox
TOBY-L2 cellular module, the
u-blox NEO-M8L GNSS receiver,
and in some products the
ublox JODY-W1 WiFi module.
As advanced telematics grows
its footprint in commercial automotive
applications, demands
on the reliability and robustness
of the cloud connectivity are on
the rise. NetModule designed its
NG800 automotive IoT gateway
to offer robust communication
Mid- and Highband Frontend
Module supports 3G/4G/5G
A new FEM (frontend module) from Skyworks
meets 5G NR and LTE advanced requirements
where wider bandwidth (100 MHz) and carrier
aggregation are used for higher data rates.
This highly integrated solution includes power
amplifier blocks operating in the mid and high
bands, a silicon controller containing the MIPI
RFFE interface, RF band switches, mid- and
high-band antenna switches, bi-directional couplers
and integrated filters to support Bands 1,
2, 3, 7, 34, 39, 40 and 41. Packaged in a 62-pad
LGA assembly, it offers a highly manufacturable
and low-cost solution. The SKY58085-
11 builds upon Skyworks’ Sky5 portfolio of
between a vehicle’s onboard
electronics and connected cloud
based applications enabling a
broad spectrum of automotive
use cases, including e-mobility
monitoring, fleet management,
and remote vehicle diagnostics.
To meet customer-specific requirements
with bespoke solutions,
NetModule has adopted
an innovative modular platform
approach comprising software,
electronic, and mechanical
modules. This platform allows
to manufacture a broad range of
product variants at a moderate
investment, even in small quantities.
In addition, the NG800
gateway received in 2019 the
highly appreciated Red Dot
Design Award in the category
Product Design.
Municipalities will be among
those to benefit, for instance,
by equipping garbage collection,
street cleaning, and winter
maintenance vehicles with
the NG800 telematics gateway.
Authorities will be able to monitor
their vehicles’ activities, itineraries,
and status, gathering
valuable real-time data that they
can leverage to optimize their
operations.
The NG800, which combines
LTE Cat 4 cellular communication,
Bluetooth low energy short
range radio, and GNSS positioning
with dead reckoning, also
features a Molex CMC 48 pin
connector to accept wired inputs
such as CAN, RS-232, automotive
Ethernet 100BASE-T1, and
Fast Ethernet 100BASE-TX.
Housed in a robust IP69-classified
case, the NG800 is designed
to withstand harsh handling,
making it tough enough
to be mounted on the vehicles’
exteriors.

Lowcost CRO VCO
Delivers Exceptional
Phase Noise at 6.55
GHz
The new CRO6550X2-LF utilizes
a doubled CRO oscillator
design to cover 6.55 GHz
within a tuning window of 0.3
to 4.7 V. This ceramic resonator
VCO features exceptionally
low phase noise of -102 dBc/
Hz @ 10 kHz and better than
-125 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset.
Besides the spectral purity,
making the CRO6550X2-LF
even more remarkable is that it
is available in Z-Comm’s standard
Mini-16-SM package measuring
0.5 x 0.5 x 0.22 in. The
CRO6550X2-LF is well suited
for satellite communication
systems requiring unmatched
performance levels.
This low cost VCO is configured
to deliver output power of 0 ±4
dBm into a 50 ohm load and
covers the operating frequency
with a low Kvco figure of 10
MHz/V all while guaranteed to
operate over the industrial temperature
range of -40 to +85
°C. It is specified to run off a 8
V supply while drawing only 25
mA of current. The CRO6550X2-
LF suppresses both the ½ and
2nd harmonic to better than 22
dBc while limiting pulling to
less than 2 MHz. It is available
in tape and reel packaging for
production requirements.
