HIGH QUALITY PLASTER FOR EXTERIOR WALL COVERING
A WALL PLASTER THAT PROUDLY
DISPLAYS ITS COLOURS
Solvay AFM develops new products for new
markets. One of these is an innovative PCC
(precipitated calcium carbonate) which comes in the
form of a mineral additive for use in indoor or
outdoor wall plasters. The new Solvay product,
known as ARW 100, is earmarked for plaster for
outdoor use. Its use in wall plasters improves
their impermeability while letting the wall breathe.
The resistance to abrasion and the adhesiveness to
the support are also increased. Application is made
easier, guaranteeing aesthetic results. Finally, the
preparation already contains the pigment and
therefore makes it possible to do without the usual
coat of paint which is costly in raw materials,
in labour and maintenance. The product comes
in a broad spectrum of colours. This new product has
been developed with Italian partners, Macri,
specialized in plaster products. It can look forward to
a promising future, as the biggest Italian
manufacturers of construction products have already
shown an interest. But what about production?
Between 1 000 tonnes and 2 000 tonnes per year
and the action plan already has its sights set on
gaining a foothold on other European markets.
Thanks to these new and innovative product, Solvay
has given all added value to all its customers
downstream of the commercial chain:
• a innovative and profitable application for plasters
producers;
• an alternative for architects to propose an
ecological solution to the final consumer, with a
large choice of colours;
• savings in terms of products, costs and of the time
of the installers, through a higher performance
product;
• a faster and less costly construction of buildings
and houses, through the selection of a precise ink for
the final consumer.
NIDACELL INSIDE: AN OPEN DOOR
TOWARDS NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO PRODUCE
3D STRUCTURES COMPOSITES
THE COMPETITIVENESS
OF “HONEYCOMBS”
N idacellTM is the first procedure to offer the
possibility of both extruding
and assembling honeycombs 3D structures
on a continuous line.
Developed initially for PVC, the Nidacell
technology is now set to be used in the
processing of a very broad range of
thermoplastics ranging from PVC (soft, rigid,
recycled) to the polymers of the most cutting
edge specialties (PPSU, PVDF, TPE…).
It allows industrialists active in the fields
of furniture, aeronautics or the automobile,
to produce light, rigid or supple, insulating,
fire or chemical resistant panels at a
competitive cost and in line with demand.
Solvay intends to exploit the numerous
technical innovations coming out of the
development of this revolutionary procedure
by selling licenses as well as through
the additional sales of polymers, thus paving
the way for new applications and new
markets.
BUILDING ON PARTNERSHIPS TO MARKET
AND SELL NEW BICAR ® BASED APPLICATIONS
TOWARDS CONSUMERS
SODIUM BICARBONATE:
A SPECIFIC PARTNER
FOR EACH APPLICATION
Our grandmothers were well aware of the
benefits of sodium bicarbonate,
properties that have been somewhat
forgotten today, with the exception of
countries such as Italy or the US. Nevertheless,
we are observing widespread renewed
interest in more “natural”, healthy and safe
products. That is the image that sodium
bicarbonate enjoys in Italy, and over and
beyond its image, bicarbonate is often
positioned as a more natural alternative to
certain components in cosmetics or detergents.
We are therefore anticipating multiple
possibilities for domestic applications
“containing sodium bicarbonate”. However,
our teams do not have all the necessary
competences to quickly develop these new
applications nor to introduce them into
the mass distribution market. An original
approach, whose main aim is to visibly
introduce sodium bicarbonate into a range
of “wellness” products, has therefore been
adopted. Starting with the most promising
applications, one or several partners have
been selected and an adapted cooperation
agreement was defined (patent, brand,
royalties and distribution policy). The first
results are already visible: you can find
B2Clean ® (partnership with ISOPAC) or a
bicarbonate “anti-allergenic” detergent
(partnership with Vandeputte – “Eau
Écarlate ® ”) in your hypermarkets and several
products are also set to hit the shelves
in the near future.
