RULE 55 PROBATIONERS - TO OBSERVE. A district
commander shall maintain a strict
scrutiny of all melllbers and elllployees of his
cOlllmand serving their probationary period to
ascertain their fitness or the position they
·occupy. He shall submit a wri tten report to
the Comlllissioner of Police explaining his
findings regarding the probationers. This report
shall be ma.de not later than seven days
prior to the termination of the probationary
period.
RULE 56 ABSENCE OF A MEMBER - TO INVESTIGATE.
A district commander shall assign an officer
of higher ranR to visit a. member or employee
of his command who is unable to report for
duty in order to determine the validity and
justification for such absence. If the member
or employee resides in a district other than
the one in which he worRs, the commanding officer
shall arrange th rough the commanding 0 fficer
of the district in which the member or
employee resides to have a superior officer of
his co.mmand make the visit.
In all si tu ations invol ving "inj ury on
duty" the commanding officer of the injured
lIIember or employee shall require the vi siting
officer to deterllline the cause of the injury.
If there appears any indication or su spicion
that such member or employee is fei gning sick- #!!!!::.
ness, or that his disabi lity is a resul t of W
indulgence in intoxicants, or other improper
practice, a police physician shall be noti fied
immediately so that a medical investigation
can be made without delay.
