RULE 55 PROBATIONERS - TO OBSERVE. A district<br />
<strong>com</strong>mander shall maintain a strict<br />
scrutiny of all melllbers and elllployees of his<br />
cOlllmand serving their probationary period to<br />
ascertain their fitness or the position they<br />
·occupy. He shall submit a wri tten report to<br />
the Comlllissioner of Police explaining his<br />
findings regarding the probationers. This report<br />
shall be ma.de not later than seven days<br />
prior to the termination of the probationary<br />
period.<br />
RULE 56 ABSENCE OF A MEMBER - TO INVESTIGATE.<br />
A district <strong>com</strong>mander shall assign an officer<br />
of higher ranR to visit a. member or employee<br />
of his <strong>com</strong>mand who is unable to report for<br />
duty in order to determine the validity and<br />
justification for such absence. If the member<br />
or employee resides in a district other than<br />
the one in which he worRs, the <strong>com</strong>manding officer<br />
shall arrange th rough the <strong>com</strong>manding 0 fficer<br />
of the district in which the member or<br />
employee resides to have a superior officer of<br />
his co.mmand make the visit.<br />
In all si tu ations invol ving "inj ury on<br />
duty" the <strong>com</strong>manding officer of the injured<br />
lIIember or employee shall require the vi siting<br />
officer to deterllline the cause of the injury.<br />
If there appears any indication or su spicion<br />
that such member or employee is fei gning sick- #!!!!::.<br />
ness, or that his disabi lity is a resul t of W<br />
indulgence in intoxicants, or other improper<br />
practice, a police physician shall be noti fied<br />
immediately so that a medical investigation<br />
can be made without delay.<br />
