RULE 329 REPORTING STOLEN AUTOMOBILES. When
a pol ice officer is informed of the theft of
an automobile he shall direct the complainant
to the appropriate station-house where appropri
ate fo rms are a vai I able to record the compI
ain t. Only in si tuations whe re it is clearly
impossible for the compl ainant to go to the
station-house, shall the police officer take
such a report. In such situations, he shall
obtain the name, address, and telephone number
of the complainant and the make, type, size,
and color of the vehicle as well as the engine,
serial and license numbers of the vehicle.
He shall transmit this data to the appropriate
district station-house or department
uni t.
RULE 330 VIC IOUS DOG. When a vicious dog is
found running at large, it shall be taken to
the nearest station-house and held there for
the city poundmaster. If the animal cannot be
safely taken, it shall be destroyed by the
police officer at the scene. The necessary
reports of action taken shall be submitted by
the police officer to his superior officer.
RULE 331 MENTALLY ILL PERSONS. A police officer
shall promptly take into custody any
mentally iII person who is dangerous to himself
or to the community. When a non-violent
person is taken into custody for commi tment to
the psychopathic hospital, an affidavit shall
be submitted to a judge of the County Court
upon blanks obtained from the Clerk of the
Court. When a non-violent mentally ill person
lives with relatives or friends, the police
officer shall infonn such relatives or friends
the proper action to pursue to effect commi
tmen t.
