In the annual report of the O.C.,P.W.D. Mr. Cunnigham, No. 135/89 of 8th<br />

July, 1889, the following works are recorded :—<br />

Carpas Road,^-continuation from the Bridge near Eleousa Monastery for 3^<br />

miles to Rizo-Carpas. A diversion was carried out in the village of Yiallousa,<br />

but the sum available was inadequate to complete the metalling between this<br />

place and Rizo-Carpas.<br />

Larnaca-Kophinou Road,—^formation carried out during the previous year<br />

and during that under review 7 miles were metalled and certain " Irish bridges "<br />

formed. Four miles of this road remain to be metalled.<br />

Nicosia-Peristerona-Morphou Road,—a length of 14 miles as far as Peristerona<br />

(besides 3 miles at the Nicosia end maintained by convicts) improved but more<br />

metal required. The Peristerona-Morphou section via Astromeriti and Zodia set<br />

out and marked with cairns.<br />

Limassol Wine Roads,—branch to Vasa | mile in length commenced but<br />

not completed and the ravine close by a-bridge.<br />

Ktima-Polis Road,—continued for another IJ miles making 10 miles now<br />

formed, and heavy parts metalled.<br />

Kelokethara Nahieh Road,—continued for 2^ miles ; total formed 7 miles to<br />

31st March, 1889.<br />

The summary shows 15^ miles of road formed and 14 metalled of whioh 7<br />

were on Roads previously opened.<br />

Nicosia-Larnacsf Road.<br />

Nicosia-Famagusta Road.<br />

Nicosia-Limassol Road as far as Korno.<br />

Nicosia-Kyrenia Road.<br />

Nicosia-Kythrea Road.<br />

Larnaca-Famagusta Road.<br />

Larnaca-Messaoria Road.<br />

Larnaca-Limassol Road.<br />

Limassol-Papho Road as far as Episcopi and other minor roads not specified.<br />

Altogether about 240 miles had been repaired, some steep gradients improved<br />

and heavier portions metalled.<br />
