It is, necessary to remark here that this road was shewn as a Carriage Road in<br />
the map accompanying Mr. Brown's Annual Report of 1887, of which No. III. of<br />
this series is a copy. It appears to have been under maintenance from time to<br />
time in the years between 1887 and 1894, but in this latter year it seems,to have<br />
become necessary to reconstruct it; doubtless owing to the paucity of the amounts<br />
allowed for maintenance.<br />
The only other road which appears to have been under construction during<br />
the year 1894-1895 was the—<br />
Limassol-Paphos New Road,—to which 2J miles were added.<br />

Besides other minor roads. It was estimated the 330 miles had been under<br />
maintenance and whenever funds were available some of the worst places have<br />
been metalled.<br />
It is also recorded that about 3 miles of the mountain road between Kythrea,<br />
Khartza and Ay. Ambrosios were improved, the Government supplying supervision<br />
and tools and the village interested the labour.<br />
Amongst others it is recorded that the timber bridge over the Orta Keuy<br />
Der6 or Medias Argaki near the village of Orta Keuy was constructed.<br />
It is also recorded that a stone breaking machine worked by manual po«er<br />
was imported and employed on the Nicosia-Larnaca Road and its use resulted in<br />
a saving of 25 % on the cost of breaking metal as compared with that broken by<br />
hand.<br />
