Orta-Keuj-Aghirda Road.—In reality a diversion of the Nicosia-Kyrenia
Road between the 1J and 10| miles, avoiding the bad line of the " Hummocks "
encountered vui Dicomo. The formation was carried out from the Nicosia end
to a point about a mile beyond Geunyeli.
Karavostassi-Kambos Road.—A commencement was made on this road and
the line opened in various places, by the cutting of the preliminary berm on the
gradients of a Third Class Road. The Villagers and the Monastery of Kykko
contributed largely with free labour towards this work, the sum granted by
Government being spent on supervision, tools and blasting materials.
Kyrenia-Lapithos Road.—The section between Karavas and Lapithos was
completed and metalled.
Kyrenia-Ay. Epictetos Road, formed throughout mainly by free labour from
the village of Ay. Epictetos.
Nicosia-Kyrenia Road, underwent improvements at five places between
Aghirda Police Station and the Bougazi Mylos where the gradients of 1 in 5*6,
I in 7, 1 in 11, etc., were substituted by those of 1 in 15. There still remain
parts of this road where the gradients are unreasonably steep.
Nicosia-Varoshia Road, was also improved near the village of Kalopsyda
and at the descent into the Vrysoudhi Valley where gradients of 1 in 8 and 1 in
II were replaced by those of 1 in 15.
Limassol Main Road to Zygi,—This was the re-opening of a section of the
Old Larnaca-Zygi-Mari Road between Mari Bridge and Zygi. The formation of
the whole length was carried out but not metalled.
Platres-Prodromos Road.—A commencement was made upon this important
road by lockspitting the trace which leaves the Limassol-Troodos Road a little
below Pano-Platres near the 30th mile post from Limassol and terminates at
Prodromes. At the end of the year about three parts of a mile of road had been
raade by free labour from the village of Prodromes.
Among the bridge work carried out during the year, of which full details
appear in the document under reference, the most important was the—
Giaz Bridge, commenced during the previous financial year and completed
during that under review.
