COST ACTION E22: Environmental optimisation of wood protection 3. RESEARCH ACTIVITIES BY WORKING GROUPS The activities of each participant are presented associated with the topics in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of COST Action E22. Working Group 1: PERFORMANCE Scope: Traditional wood preservatives, specifying durability requirements, optimum bio-effective life, creosote, field performance using soil, insects in Europe, climatic conditions. COST ACTION E22: Environmental optimisation of wood protection Working Group 3: INNOVATIONS Scope: Application of modified wood, heat treatment, insect growth regulators, new biocides, non-biocidal treatments, resins and oils. Insect growth regulators • Bioprotection of logs and lumber (LUA) • New methods of using insect growth regulators, pheromones, attractants and repellents (LUA and LFRI) 4. CONCLUSIONS The scope of the COST Action E22 is of considerable relevance and new interest in Lithuania. The themes of key significance are: • Natural durability of wood • Developing optimum preservative treatments • Facilitating the uptake of environmentally improved products and technologies • Wood waste studies 5. ANNEXES Annex 1 lists the Organisations who responded to the request for information, together with details about their contact persons and co-ordinates.
