COST ACTION E22: Environmental optimisation of wood protection Working Group 3: INNOVATIONS Scope: Application of modified wood, heat treatment, insect growth regulators, new biocides, non-biocidal treatments, resins and oils Physiological inhibitors/attractants • insect population ecology Insect growth regulators • biotechnology means of pest suppression, • optimisation of chemical use in pest management “Natural” biocidal products and systems • relationship between pathogenic fungi and insect vectors 4. CONCLUSIONS The scope of the Cost Action E22 is of considerable relevance and interest in Croatia. The themes of key signification are: • Classifying hazard including risk mapping (COST Indexes separately for fungi and insects) • creosote and creosote based products • developing optimum preservative treatments • providing guidance and practical tools for defining and specifying appropriate levels of durability in wood and wood components 5. ANNEXES Annex 1 lists the Organisations who responded to the request for information, together with details about their contact persons and co-ordinates. Annex 2 summarises the activities in the particular Working Groups of E22 using the standard template. 34
