EPC - Energy Performance Certificates
What Are They?
EPC’s are used to provide information on a buildings
energy use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. They also
include a recommendation report giving advice on how to
reduce the amount of energy used and lower the level of
CO2 emissions in a building.
How They Work?
EPC’s carry ratings that compare the current energy
efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions with potential
figures that could be achieved. Potential figures are
calculated by estimating what the energy efficiency and
CO2 emissions would be if energy saving measures were
put in to place.
The rating measures the energy and CO2 efficiency of
a property using a sliding scale from ‘A’ (very efficient)
to ‘G’ (least efficient). All properties of the same type
are measured using the same calculation. This allows
a comparison of the energy efficiency between different
buildings.
