It is important to:
disability
• be respectful, not only of the person but also of their disability
• be aware of myths and stereotypes
• consider what the function of purpose of the behaviour is.
Case studies 6
Scenario four
Mike is a 22 year old man with a moderate intellectual disability and poor communication
skills. He does not really get along with the other people who live in his house and won’t
even eat dinner with them. He often displays aggressive behaviour towards them, especially
when he doesn’t get his own way. He spends a lot of time in his room masturbating, but CRU
staff don’t think he is achieving ‘satisfaction’ and that he is getting ‘frustrated’, they also think
that some of his aggressive behaviour may be due to this.
