Lt. Col. Arthur Guy Leslie Pepys, MC, served (inter alia) in Mashonal<strong>an</strong>d <strong>an</strong>d<br />

Matabelel<strong>an</strong>d 1896 - 97 (medal & clasp). Born 24/8/1875, married, 6/3/1915, Olive<br />

Grace, youngest daughter <strong>of</strong> the late John Frederick Starkey, JP, DL, <strong>of</strong> Bodicote<br />

House, B<strong>an</strong>bury, Oxfordshire <strong>an</strong>d had issue. 2nd son <strong>of</strong> Henry Leslie Pepys who was<br />

the 3rd son <strong>of</strong> Charles Christopher Pepys, 1st Earl <strong>of</strong> Cottenham. (Samuel Pepys, the<br />

diarist, was a member <strong>of</strong> this family).<br />

Sable, on a bend Or between two nags' heads erased argent three fleurs-de-lis <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Great-great-gr<strong>an</strong>dson <strong>of</strong> Sir Pigott William Piers, 5th Baronet. Born 30/11/1905,<br />

married 18/6/1935, Ursula Mary Bence, daughter <strong>of</strong> the Rev. George Alfred Charles<br />

Smith-Cr<strong>an</strong>moor, Rector <strong>of</strong> Baldock, co. Hertford <strong>an</strong>d had issue.<br />

Tristram James Pine-C<strong>of</strong>fin, formerly <strong>of</strong> New Portledge, Melsetter (Chim<strong>an</strong>im<strong>an</strong>i).<br />

Sixth son <strong>of</strong> John Richard Pine-C<strong>of</strong>fin <strong>of</strong> Portledge, Devon. Born 4/8/1885,<br />

married 1stly, 8/2/1912, Ethel (d. 5/2/1914) youngest daughter <strong>of</strong> Paul B. Fearon <strong>of</strong><br />

The M<strong>an</strong>or House, Wortham, Suffolk. He married 2ndly, 22/6/1915, Sybil Mary,<br />

only daughter <strong>of</strong> the late Major-General Fr<strong>an</strong>cis Hugh Plowden, MC. Killed in action<br />

23/9/1919.<br />

Richard Chicheley Plowden, formerly <strong>of</strong> the Southern Rhodesi<strong>an</strong> Civil Service. Born<br />

14/4/1923, elder son <strong>of</strong> Brig. Bry<strong>an</strong> Edward Chicheley Plowden, DSO, <strong>of</strong> Newry,<br />

Mayhill, Ramsey, Isle <strong>of</strong> M<strong>an</strong>.<br />

Herbert Charles Onslow Plumer, GCB, GCMG, GCVO, CBE, 1st Baron Plumer, Field<br />

Marshal. Comm<strong>an</strong>ded a Corps <strong>of</strong> Mounted Rifles in the Matabele Campaign <strong>of</strong> 1896,<br />

also the Rhodesi<strong>an</strong> Force in South Africa 1899 - 1902.<br />

son <strong>of</strong> the Rt. Hon. Sir Henry Frederick Ponsonby, PC, GCB, gr<strong>an</strong>dson <strong>of</strong> Sir Frederick<br />

Cavendish Ponsonby, GCMG, KCB, KCH, KMT, KSG, <strong>an</strong>d great-gr<strong>an</strong>dson <strong>of</strong><br />

Frederick Ponsonby, 3rd Earl <strong>of</strong> Bessborough.<br />
