Surface Course The layer <strong>of</strong> the asphalt surfacing immediately<br />
below the porous friction course or which<br />
directly supports the traffic. (Previously called<br />
‘Wearing Course’).<br />
Tack Coat A thin film <strong>of</strong> bitumen emulsion to improve the<br />
adhesion between two courses <strong>of</strong> asphalt or<br />
between an existing surface <strong>and</strong> a new<br />
asphalt layer.<br />
