3.3 FINE AGGREGATES<br />

3.3.1 Subject to the limitations set in Table 3.1,<br />

fine aggregates shall be:<br />

• natural bank, river, dune, or pit s<strong>and</strong>;<br />

• blast furnace or steel slag;<br />

• crushed rock; or<br />

• blends <strong>of</strong> s<strong>and</strong>, slag <strong>and</strong> crushed rock<br />

<strong>and</strong> shall be free from loosely bonded<br />

aggregations <strong>and</strong> other foreign matter. Seadredged<br />

s<strong>and</strong> shall not be permitted.<br />

3.3.2 The properties <strong>of</strong> the fine aggregate shall<br />

conform to the BS EN 13043 Categories shown in<br />

Table 3.3.<br />

3.4 ADDED FILLER<br />

3.4.1 All filler aggregate used in the <strong>Hot</strong> <strong>Rolled</strong><br />

<strong>Asphalt</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Asphalt</strong> <strong>Concrete</strong> (<strong>Macadam</strong>) shall be<br />

CE marked.<br />

3.4.2 The type <strong>of</strong> filler aggregate to be used for<br />

a particular material shall be selected from the<br />

alternatives in Table 3.4.<br />

3.4.3 Filler aggregate shall be stored in dry<br />

conditions.<br />

3.4.4 The grading <strong>of</strong> added filler aggregate<br />

shall conform to Clause 5.2.1 <strong>of</strong> BS EN 13043.<br />

3.4.5 The loose bulk density in kerosene <strong>of</strong><br />

added filler aggregate, other than hydrated lime,<br />

shall be in accordance with Clause 5.5.5 <strong>of</strong><br />

BS EN 13043.<br />

3.4.6 A copy <strong>of</strong> all filler aggregate delivery<br />

tickets shall be passed to the Project Manager on<br />

a regular basis during production, for his retention.<br />
