9 Summary <strong>of</strong> Tests<br />

9.1 TEST RESULTS<br />

The Contractor shall be responsible for having all<br />

testing carried out in accordance with the<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> this Section <strong>and</strong> provide the Project<br />

Manager with a written copy <strong>of</strong> all results at the first<br />

reasonable opportunity but not later than 2 working<br />

days after completion <strong>of</strong> each test. Testing shall be<br />

started on specimens within 2 working days <strong>of</strong><br />

sampling <strong>and</strong> shall be carried out in an expeditious<br />

manner.<br />

9.2 TESTS FOR INITIAL APPROVAL OF<br />

MATERIALS<br />

9.2.1 Before mixing starts the Contractor (or his<br />

materials supplier(s) on his behalf) shall provide<br />

current CE mark certificates for all aggregates<br />

showing conformity with all requirements <strong>of</strong><br />

Section 3.<br />

9.2.2 In addition to 9.2.1, the Contractor (or his<br />

materials supplier(s) on his behalf) shall have<br />

carried out the aggregate tests in Table 9.1 for<br />

comparison with the relevant specification clauses.<br />

9.2.3 In addition, the Contractor shall submit the<br />

appropriate certificates for binder <strong>and</strong> other<br />

constituents, including tack or bond coat, <strong>and</strong> also<br />

for tack or bond coat spray bar equipment.<br />

9.3 TEST FOR THE PROPORTIONING<br />

AND DESIGN OF MIXTURES<br />

Before mixing starts the Contractor (or his materials<br />

supplier(s) on his behalf) shall provide current CE<br />

mark certificates for all asphalt mixtures showing<br />

conformity with all requirements <strong>of</strong> Section 4 for <strong>Hot</strong><br />

<strong>Rolled</strong> <strong>Asphalt</strong>, Section 5 for <strong>Asphalt</strong> <strong>Concrete</strong><br />

(<strong>Macadam</strong>) or Section 6 for Pervious <strong>Macadam</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

the relevant specification clauses in Table 9.2.<br />

9.4 ROUTINE TESTS ON BULK<br />

SUPPLIES THROUGHOUT PLANT<br />

MIXING<br />

9.4.1 The Quality Assurance procedures for the<br />

supply <strong>of</strong> component material <strong>and</strong> asphalt mixtures<br />

shall include carrying out tests in order to:<br />

• check on the consistency <strong>of</strong> bulk supplies;<br />

• compare with the properties <strong>and</strong> gradings <strong>of</strong> the<br />

conformity declaration; <strong>and</strong><br />

• check on the capability <strong>of</strong> the dryers to function<br />

efficiently with aggregates <strong>of</strong> variable moisture<br />

content.<br />

The tests shall include those in Table 9.3.<br />

9.4.2 If the result <strong>of</strong> any test indicates that the<br />

bulk deliveries are not <strong>of</strong> a grading or quality<br />

consistent with the declaration <strong>of</strong> conformity, the<br />

Contractor shall, at his own expense, carry out<br />

further tests to establish the location <strong>and</strong> extent to<br />

which the materials already stockpiled fail to meet<br />

the specified requirements <strong>and</strong>, if stored on site,<br />

shall remove all material condemned by the Project<br />

Manager for this reason from the aerodrome.<br />

9.4.3 Where the material is mixed <strong>of</strong>f site, any<br />

condemned material shall be carefully removed<br />

from the stockpiles to be used for the work.<br />
