A COMMON plant in our pastures, and by<br />

waj sides. It is two or three feet high ; the stalk<br />

is round, upright, firm and striated : the leave?<br />

are long-, and not very broad, and they<br />

are the<br />

beautifully divided of those of any known<br />

plant.<br />

Their colour is a deep green, and the parts<br />

into which they are divided are exceedingly fine,<br />

slender, and regularly arranged : the flowers stand<br />

at the fops of the branches, in the manner of<br />

umbels, in round and large tufts ; they are white,<br />

but they often have a blush of red. The root<br />

is white and creeping, and the seeds are white,<br />

broad, and flat.<br />

The "whole plant is used fresh gathered,<br />

the best part is the tops of the shoots ; these are<br />

to be boiled in water, and the decoction sweeten^<br />

cd with fine ; it is sugar excellent against<br />
