And bind her brows with light ;<br />

then mark the host<br />

Of golden stars, which from the sapphire depths<br />

Of heaven come forth to attend her solemn state,<br />

Lifting thy heart in prayer to Him who showered<br />

Those living splendours o'er eternal space ;<br />

O, HE would teach thee how to wrestle with<br />

The fiend that vexeth thee, and from thy bosom<br />

Cast out the evil one.<br />

WALDIMAR.<br />

Alas ! there is<br />

No beauty in this world for one who waits<br />

The doing of the all-nameless fearful deed !<br />

The groves are decked in flowers, the heavens are bright<br />

With morning dyes, and evening suns go down<br />

In crimson pomp ;<br />

but not for me the flowers<br />

Put forth their bloom, or suns arise and set.<br />

My thoughts are not of those delightful scenes<br />

That bless the years of youth. Yet on me shines,<br />

When thou art present, a bright nameless gleam ;<br />

It is not joy or hope, for they can find<br />

No place in my dark bosom.<br />
