Macclesfield died & left the Bp <strong>of</strong> Rochester & me her Executors, with a<br />

Legacy <strong>of</strong> 100 11 to each.] This Year] ] Ld Hardwicke, as Chancellor, gave<br />

my Nephew John Frost the Rectory <strong>of</strong> Lillingston Lovel in Oxfordshire<br />

(to be held with Sibbert<strong>of</strong>t, if I mistake not) for which I promised him<br />

one <strong>of</strong> equal Value, & afterwards gave Fringford, which lapsed to me, to<br />

Mr Greenhill on his Recommendation. He also, I am not sure in what<br />

Year, gave a Living in Friday street to my Nephew Seeker, for which I<br />

gave Sandon to a Person recommended by his Lordship. Before that,<br />

my Nephew held Yardley which the Dean & Chapter gave him before his<br />

Marriage, with Sandon, which I gave him.<br />

This Year I gave to Dr Chandler for the Germans in Pennsylvania 20 1 *.<br />

FOLIO 48 June 5,6. 1754 we went from St Pauls to Cuddesden.<br />

1754-58 Nov. 8,9 we returned to St Pauls. (This Summer I lent Dr<br />

N. Forster 150* 1 weh he repaid me.)<br />

In March 1755 I gave Dr Scott a 3d 20 H . I gave also 100 Ji to augment<br />

Wheatly Chapel. 7 )[In Apr. Dr Salter preached for the Sons <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Clergy. His Sermon wd have <strong>of</strong>fended greatly, if I had not corrected it<br />

after preaching.] May 9,10 we went to Cuddesden 5 )[where, after 3<br />

Years Interval, I had a 5th Fit <strong>of</strong> the Gout, but now for the first time in<br />

my right Foot. In following Years it returned more frequently: but<br />

affected my left Foot <strong>of</strong>tener & more than my right.I] I* gave Mr<br />

Tucker, now Dean <strong>of</strong> Glocester, a Present <strong>of</strong> 20 1 * 6 )[and I wrote at<br />

different times, at his Request, Remarks on Pieces wch he printed, but I<br />

think hath not published, on various political & commercial Subjects.] I<br />

came up to St Pauls Nov. 7,8 I know not on what Account, & went back<br />

17,18. We all returned thither the 30th. 4 )[This Year Dr Churches<br />

Analysis <strong>of</strong> Ld Bolingbrokes Works was published. I made some<br />

Corrections in it, & Additions to it.] In 1755 {I preserved Ld Newnham<br />

from popery: &} I recommended Ld Fitzmaurice, now Shelburne, to Dr<br />

Benthams Care at Oxford.<br />

In the End <strong>of</strong> April 1756 we went to Cuddesden: in the End <strong>of</strong> July<br />

returned to St Pauls. ^[June 5 I lent Bp Hume 400 11 on his Bond: which<br />

he repaid me before Christmass 1757 with 20 lx Interest. I gave Mrs<br />

Sainsbury a Clergymans widow 10 Gs & so every Year afterwards.]<br />

Sept. 2-10 we went to Yardley, Wimple, Cambridge: Sept 14,15 to<br />

Cuddesden. Nov. 29,30 to St Pauls.<br />

2)[This Year Bp Conybeare died. I procured from the Duke <strong>of</strong><br />

Newcastle a Pension <strong>of</strong> 140^ a Year for his Son & Daughter, which was<br />

renewed to them on the Accession <strong>of</strong> the present King. I was promised<br />
