margin is cut into three semicircles that have been incised<br />
to represent the front tongue and the sides of high boots. The<br />
laces have also been executed with tracing: they start at the<br />
foot and then are laced over each other repeatedly in front<br />
of the ankle before being tied twice around the tops of the<br />
boots, where they end in a large knot in the center.<br />
Con<strong>di</strong>tion. most of the two big toes have been lost, and the<br />
soles <strong>di</strong>d not exist, at least in the preserved piece of the two<br />
parts (see Sections i.F, iii.d). The bronze sheet is folded outward<br />
in the lower area of the right boot. There are still traces<br />
of ancient solder where the lower border was joined to the<br />
lion head (see below). The exterior surface is largely metallic<br />
with patches of green corrosion; the interior surface presents<br />
massive corrosion.<br />
Technical observations. The outer side edges of the boots<br />
were probably squared off by ben<strong>di</strong>ng and cutting along<br />
the edge with a chisel. The upper edges of the boots are<br />
