New Legacies<br />

The following new Legacies may be added to those in the<br />

<strong>Changeling</strong> rulebook, if desired.<br />

Quests and Bans<br />

Listed beneath each Legacy's description is the Quest and<br />

Ban of that Legacy. The Quest describes what you must do to<br />

regain Willpower. The Storyteller may wish to add additional<br />

Willpower points if the way you play your character reflects<br />

both your primary and secondary Legacies in a particularly<br />

convincing way (Storyteller's option). Your Legacy's Ban is just<br />

a roleplaying guide; although your Storyteller may wish to<br />

enforce it in your game, it's intended as a guideline rather than<br />

law. Your Storyteller may also wish to take Bans into account<br />

while handing out Willpower to characters who consistently<br />

violate their Bans. Loss of Willpower is a way of punishing those<br />

who routinely violate their Bans, but should only be used in the<br />

most extreme cases. You may also wish to consider the Ban of<br />

your secondary Legacy while playing your character: how it<br />

affects your primary Quest and Ban, though the secondary may<br />

not override the primary.<br />

Characters who ignore their Quests and Bans may be<br />

affected in other ways than the loss of Willpower. The Dreaming<br />

and its denizens are reflections of the dreams, imaginations and<br />

fundamental natures of all the dreamers who live in the World<br />

of Darkness. Despite its fanciful appearance, the Dreaming is in<br />

many ways more real and fundamental than the "reality" perceived<br />

by everyday people. <strong>Changeling</strong>s are more in tune with<br />

the Dreaming than any other race, and the Dreaming sees<br />

through all their masks to their true natures. Legacies are not<br />

merely psychological profiles, but are indicative of changelings'<br />

archetypal connection with the Dreaming. Kithain who reject<br />

their true natures are behaving in a manner counter to the<br />

nature of the Dreaming, and the Dreamrealms may exact a toll<br />

from those who violate the truth of their own existence. This toll<br />

may take the form of strange or hostile reactions from chimera,<br />

subtle changes in the changeling's faerie seeming, or in the<br />

distortion of the changeling's perception of the Dreaming.<br />

The tolls exacted by the Dreaming are almost infinite in<br />

variation, but usually subtle in their effect. Every changeling has<br />

her own personal relationship with the Dreaming. The Dream<br />

Lands, in return, react differently to each changeling. The<br />

Storyteller may use his discretion when creating the Dreaming's<br />

response to a character's violation of her Ban, but it should be<br />

consistent with the character's Legacy. For example a Prankster<br />

or Bogle who consistently fails to play pranks may find that the<br />

Dreaming plays pranks on him. A Knight who fails to live up to<br />

the knightly virtues may find his faerie seeming tarnished, thereby<br />

allowing others to see that he is a false knight. Extreme penalties<br />

may include a Fop who consistently fails to "make the scene"<br />

finding chimera appearing at his old haunts disguised as him, or<br />

a Philanthropist who brings ill to others by her very presence.
