Judge King-Hamilton. Indeed, we were warned<br />

before the trial that he was even worse.<br />

Was he deliberately chosen? It’s amazing that<br />

of all the judges who could have presided over<br />

these two trials, we had the two who were<br />

most emphatically against sexual freedom. It’s<br />

as if the prosecution had selected the two<br />

judges most likely to earn them a conviction.<br />

Once again we were found not guilty on all<br />

counts, and this time the judge, begrudgingly,<br />

awarded us £6000; nowhere near enough to<br />

cover our legal costs, totalling nearly £75,000<br />

for the three trials, and of course we hadn’t<br />

received a penny from the first two cases.<br />

Moreover, I had spent another ten days of my<br />

life bound by the court, having to ask for bail<br />

every day and spending the breaks in the cells.<br />

When the jury were out considering their<br />

verdict I played chess with the warder for over<br />

an hour.<br />

I was locked up with the worst kind of<br />

criminals, murderers and rapists. On the first<br />

day of the final trial at the Old Bailey my<br />

lawyers asked if it was appropriate for me to<br />

be kept in the cells, and it was agreed I should<br />

be freed for lunch. But what was the danger of<br />

David Gold going out for lunch in the first<br />

place? When I was down below in the cells, I<br />

was invited to sit with the warders for lunch,<br />

and they were always very polite. My cell was<br />

kept open as I waited for the call to return to<br />

court. One day a senior officer came along and,<br />

seeing that my cell was unlocked, went into a<br />
