Trevor had now lost three semi final playoffs
against Watford, Barnsley and Preston and had
been so unlucky to lose that cup final against
Liverpool. Remember, he had also lost two
Wembley finals when he was the manager of
Sheffield Wednesday. Was his luck ever going
to change? Certainly his time was running out.
We had gone so close, but at the beginning of
the 2001/02 season we were still in Division
One (now the Championship) despite investing
over £17 million in players.
But as results continued to go against us,
Trevor’s position became more fragile. I felt
like Henry Kissinger, pouring oil on troubled
political waters, especially after there was a
very public row between Trevor and Karren
and David over several issues. And always
