Autobiography

My overview of the whole episode is that we
received fair compensation from Dave Whelan
the chairman of Wigan of £3 million of course
we had to pay compensation for our new
manager Alex McLeish although this was less
than £1 million. Steve went to Wigan on an
enhanced contract worth in the region of £10
million. He owed Birmingham City Football Club
contractually £300,000, we agree to accept
£33,333 per year for three years a total of only
£100000.
Steve you got us promoted, relegated and
promoted we shared an amazing five and a
half years together, I am sure that in the
fullness of time you will look back on that day
in November 2007 when you left to go to
Wigan and realize that that was a good day for
Steve Bruce.
After all the turmoil of losing Steve we were
relegated yet again that season, under our new
manager, Alex McLeish. Alex, who was always
going to struggle to implement his own
methods and ideas in enough time to keep us
up, also took Birmingham City straight back to
the top-flight and remained there for two
seasons under Carson Yeung, winning the
Carling Cup and getting relegated in 2011.
With due modesty, there is no doubt in my
mind that over the 16-years we were involved
with the club we did a good job, taking them
from the first division to the Premier League
and when we left in November 2009 the club
was in a strong and healthy position.
