accomplish without dramatically increasing my
confidence and vocabulary.
Yet I still wish I could be more articulate, like
Michael Parkinson for instance, whose
command of the English language is
wonderful. I suppose I have clawed my way
up on my own, without going to grammar
school, public school or university.
I remember Ralph and I buying new Ford
Zodiacs early on when the business was
growing. We both bought the same colour and
they were delivered on the same day. This
reflected the equality of the brothers. We
followed it up with two white Vauxhall
Viscounts, the first cars to be made with
electric windows, and the pattern continued in
1970 with our first Daimler Sovereigns. We
always bought the same colours, and have
enjoyed Daimlers for the past 30 years. There
was a yearlong waiting list when the new
model first came out at £2,000 each, we paid
£2,500 and took delivery the following week.
