Autobiography

All I wanted to know was whether or not my
daughters were on that ferry. I have never
been so distressed in my entire life. I had a
very heavy heart as I waited for the telephone
to ring, and in between I was calling everybody
I could think of, asking them if they had heard
from the girls. It was a complete nightmare,
sitting all on my own watching the television
relaying the news and talking about the rescue
operation and the ever-growing numbers of
dead. Every ten minutes I rang their homes to
see whether they had arrived. No answer.
Then I had a huge surge of relief when the
telephone rang at three a.m. and a voice said,
