● ARTR (Almost Ready To Run)
● Scale model of the barque
Alexander von Humboldt operated
by the German charity Sail Training
of Bremerhaven
(www.gruene-segel.de).
● The model was developed
according to original drawings in
collaboration with the DSST.
● The »Alex« was converted from a
former fire ship of 1906. At that
time fire ships were built with
seaworthy sailing ship hulls. The
central mast took the form of a
lantern mast. More information on
this subject can be found on the
Internet.
● To increase the vessel’s stability,
the boat’s draft was increased
slightly by enlarging the submerged
part of the hull. As a result the
model can be operated in flat-calm
conditions even without a supplementary
keel, provided that
separate ballast weight is added to
the hull.
● Sailing the model in wind strengths
above 1 Beaufort is not recommended!
● Since the model is not fitted with a
variable rig, it should be operated
as a powered boat with sails.
● The »Alex« has become an
extremely familiar sight through its
appearance in television advertisements
for a world-renowned brand
of beer. The hull was painted green
in recognition of the sailing ships of
the Rickmers shipping company.
● Top-quality model with superb
detailing.
