400/220 kV Ranchi Substation
“We all know Rome was not built in a day. So is bay extension at Maithon Substation on turnkey
the case with 400/220 kV Ranchi Substation basis with a stringent completion schedule of 22
which has not been built in a day, neither has it
been built in a week nor in a month. But at L&T,
a green field 400/220 kV Substation could be
built barely in six months” These are the words of
appreciation as quoted by the GM (Construction)–
POWERGRID, Patna in his letter dated 15.05.2007
addressed to L&T. Charging a green field 400/220
kV substation within six months from the possession
of the land has indeed set a benchmark to L&T’s
proactive service in meeting the client’s
requirement.
On May 27, 2005, LOA for Rs. 52.18 crore was
issued by POWERGRID for the construction of a
green field 400/220 kV Substation at Ranchi and
months. Though the works for Maithon bay
extension started on schedule, the work for Ranchi
green field project could not be started due to
disputes in possession of land. Ultimately in
October 2006 the land was formally handed over to
L&T for construction. Consequently the project zero
date started with an initial delay of 16 months with
respect to the original L2 schedule.
Immediately after handing over the land,
POWERGRID management requested L&T to
tighten schedule and execute the project as per the
original completion plan. This request which
seemed to be an impossible task, was accepted as a
challenge and plans were charted with the
400 kV air insulated substation at Ranchi for POWERGRID
