132 COMPARATIVE PARASITOLOGY, 67(1), JANUARY 2000
Too few studies have been undertaken to draw
conclusions about helminth communities in species
of toads from Mexico. The data in Table 2
suggest that helminth species composition in
Bufo marinus is variable from population to
population. However, 3 features characterize
these faunas: nematode species predominate;
they are depauperate; and they are dominated by
a single species.
We thank Guillermina Cabanas-Carranza,
Elizabeth Mayen-Pena, Nancy Lopez, Cristina
Caneda, and Rafael Baez-Vale for assistance in
collecting toads. Thanks are also due to anonymous
referees who made valuable comments on
the manuscript. This work was supported by
grant SI37 from the Comision Nacional para el
Conocimiento y Uso de la Biodiversidad (CON-
