ABDUL BASIT MANMOUD ABDtTL KA:RIM, hereafter referred to<br />

as "BAS!T", Date of Birth, A;ril 27, 1968, at Kuwait, wa<br />

interviewed aboard an aircraft en route from Islamabad, Pakistan,<br />

to <strong>the</strong> United States (U.S.) of America.<br />

BASIT advised that he could fluently speak, read and<br />

understand <strong>the</strong> English language. He was advised of <strong>the</strong> official<br />

identities of <strong>the</strong> interviewing Agents and was reminded that he<br />

was under arrest for offenses concerning <strong>the</strong> bombing of <strong>the</strong> World<br />

Trade Center (WTC) in New York City. He was, <strong>the</strong>reafter, advised<br />

of his constitutional rights by reading <strong>the</strong>m and having <strong>the</strong>m read<br />

to him by Special Agent (SA) STERN, from art "Interrogation;<br />

Advice Of Ri;hts" form.<br />

BASIT advised that he understood his rights as<br />

explained to him from <strong>the</strong> form, and agreed to answer questions.<br />

He signed <strong>the</strong> "Waiver Of Rights" portion of <strong>the</strong> form, using <strong>the</strong><br />

name "BALUCH", and stated that this was a name he had been<br />

utilizing recently.<br />

From <strong>the</strong> start of <strong>the</strong> interview, BASIT insisted that<br />

<strong>the</strong> interviewing Agents refrain from taking any notes or<br />

recording <strong>the</strong> interview in any manner; he indicated that he<br />

desired to speak with <strong>the</strong> Agents, but maintained that with <strong>the</strong><br />

absence of notes or recordings, he could deny at a later date any<br />

statements that he made. He fur<strong>the</strong>r remarked that he h,d also<br />

given considerable thought as to plausible explanations for his<br />

fingerprints being present at various locations.<br />

Due to BASIT's request, notes were not taken in his<br />

presence, but were summarized during breaks in <strong>the</strong> interview.<br />

During <strong>the</strong> course of <strong>the</strong> interview, BASIT stated, in<br />

part and in substance, <strong>the</strong> following information:<br />
