AJ?J departed utilizing a British passport in <strong>the</strong> name<br />
of MQH1NAD AZAN, as AJAJ slightly resembled <strong>the</strong> photograph of<br />
AZAN on that5sspor'.<br />
(BASIT ned that he was acquainted with <strong>the</strong> real<br />
MOHAMMAD AZAN, but that <strong>the</strong> passport had been purchased on <strong>the</strong>•<br />
black market. BASIT remarked that it is common for individuals<br />
to sell <strong>the</strong>ir passports on <strong>the</strong> black market in Pakistan, and <strong>the</strong>n<br />
to report <strong>the</strong>m as having been stolen.)<br />
Once on <strong>the</strong> aircraft, BASIT removed his own photograph<br />
from <strong>the</strong> KURRAN KHAN passport, and substituted <strong>the</strong> photograph of<br />
AJAJ. He <strong>the</strong>n gave <strong>the</strong> KHAN passport to AJAJ, explaining to him<br />
that since A13AJ's English was not good, he should not attempt to<br />
enter <strong>the</strong> U.S. using <strong>the</strong> AZAN British passport.<br />
Upon entry at JOHN F. KENNEDY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT<br />
(JKFIA), in New York, BASiT utilized an Iraqi passport in <strong>the</strong><br />
name of RANZI AMMED YOUSEF.<br />
BASIT explained that he had purchased <strong>the</strong> Iraqi<br />
passport for $100.00 U.S. dollars in Peshawar, Pakistan. He<br />
noted that Peshawar is <strong>the</strong> easiest place to purchase Iraqi<br />
passports and fur<strong>the</strong>r explained that <strong>the</strong>se are genuine documents<br />
stolen by Iraqi rebels who raid passport offices in Nor<strong>the</strong>rn<br />
Iraq.<br />
When presenting <strong>the</strong> Iraqi passport to U.S. In gratJon<br />
Officials, BASIT requested political asylum, and was processed<br />
and released.<br />
AJAJ, who presented <strong>the</strong> photo substituted KURRAN KdAN<br />
Swedish passport, was detainec by U.S. Immigration Officials for<br />
his entry using false documents.<br />
AJAJ carried with him numerous materials containing<br />
information related to explosives, weapons and tactics. BASIT<br />
stated that <strong>the</strong>se materials belonged to AJAJ, and had been<br />
purchased by AJAJ in Peshawar, where <strong>the</strong>y are readily available.<br />
BASIT indicated that <strong>the</strong> materials were carried in AThJ's checked<br />
baggage.<br />
