Agrobalt is Coming to Vilnius
The most significant and extensive international exhibition of agriculture, food and package industry in the Baltic
region AgroBalt 2010 has once again returned to Vilnius Litexpo Centre of Exhibition and according to its organizers,
both the visitors and the participants will be met with a slogan – Directly from a farm. As usually, the exhibition structure
is going to cover three main areas: business, consumers and politics. The business part will highlight the possibilities
of small and medium businesses, the technologies meant for such enterprises, alternative activity in agriculture,
stockbreeding, and the possibilities of purposeful employment of EU funds. The consumer part will highlight the
communication with consumers, business links, developing such topics as food industry, culinary heritage, packaging,
substances, equipment, ecologic farming, rural development, breeding, floriculture and olericulture, land, garden and
forest technology. The main event of the political part of AgroBalt 2010 shall be the political-economical forum, titled
“The quality of life in the rural areas and the possibilities in the context of the new EU financial perspective”. Here is
an introduction of the main accents of the exhibition in detail.

hAve to Be UnifieD for All eU memBer stAtes
the municipality of farmers claims that recently one of the
most relevant questions is common Agricultural Policy (cAP)
framework of 2013. open discussions on this topic in Brussels
intimidate the new eU members, because the scandinavian
states (sweden, Denmark) sustain the idea of radical decrease
of financial aid for all eU agriculture. Yet, new member
states actively seek not only to maintain the present support
for agriculture, but also to distribute the aid on the basis of
equal principles throughout the eU. the commissioner of rural
development Dacian Cioloş and approximately 20 official
delegations from abroad are going to attend the international
forum on the cAP after 2013 in AgroBalti 2010. the cAP,
which is now implemented in the eU, is based on the support
system for industrial farms, comprising around 43 percent of
total EU budget expenses. The support helps to secure the
minimal prices for the producers, as well as the stability of
the eU agriculturalists’ farms and the quality of agricultural
products.
Due to a considerably smaller direct support, in comparison
to the support received by the farmers from other eU states,
the lithuanian farmers find themselves in unequal competitive
circumstances. this is the reason why the ministry of
Agriculture tries to retain the support for industrial farms and
to distribute that support throughout the eU states on the basis
of equal principles in the cAP after 2013. in other words,
the ministry is seeking for a unification of direct allowances
for all eU states. the continuity of the cAP after 2013 and
the unified system and amount of direct allowances would
secure the maintenance of state farmers’ income and the
competitiveness of the lithuanian agricultural products in the
common eU market.
The Rural Development Commissioner Dacian Cioloş,
whose publicly and clearly stated provisions regarding the
investment support of agriculture sound optimistic to the new
eU states, is planning to participate in the international forum
on the cAP after 2013.
the final decision regarding the cAP after 2013 shall be
made by the ministers of Agriculture of the eU states.
investment PossiBilities in fisherY
During the exhibition AgroBalt 2010, everybody who is
interested in fishery will be sought to get acquainted to the
terms of support, provided by the european fishery fund, and
to get introduced to the investment possibilities in accordance
with the priorities of the Action Plan of the lithuanian fishery
sector of 2007-2013:
• 1st priority – Adjustment measure for maritime
fishery; the main objective – to coordinate fishery
capacities and possibilities, and to create a modern,
competitive and effective fishery fleet.
• 2nd priority – Aquaculture, fishery in inland waters,
Processing and marketing of Aquaculture and fishery
Production; the main objective – to develop aquaculture,
coordinate fishery capacities with present fish resource
and create a competitive an effective fishery fleet for
inland waters, to develop fish processing and marketing
by enlarging the competitiveness of sector production
in the market.

3rd priority – means of common interest; the main
objective – to promote cooperation between the
companies, organizations of approved producers or
other public organizations, to protect and develop water
resources, to secure the development of fishing ports,
berths and their infrastructure by means of creating a
competitive fishery sector.
4th priority – stable Development of fishery regions;
the main objective – stable development of fishery
regions and their life quality on the basis of local
initiative and partnership.
in the period from 2007 to 2013 the lithuanian fishery
sector was granted a 246 034 702 million litas aid: 188.91
million litas from the european fishery fund, and 57.12
million litas from national budget.

the seminars on the most actual topics of land and food
industry and on the rural development issues, organized in the
exhibition of agriculture, food and package industry AgroBalt,
always attract a broad circle of business, science and farming
representatives.
much attention will be given to the topicalities of the
implementation of the lithuanian rural Development
Programme of 2007-2013 in this year exhibition. During the
seminar, on the very first day (29 April), the specialists from
the ministry of Agriculture will present the novelties and
adjustments, which are to simplify the support administration
and to help the farmers to develop their activity, of the
programme.
