AGRICULTURE<br />
Upon purchasing an article of food, each customer expects<br />
that it is a quality product. During the seminar “Quality<br />
products of the lithuanian farm for the customer”, organized<br />
by the ministry of Agriculture, the general conception of the<br />
EU accepted products of exceptional quality, their production<br />
peculiarities, certification <strong>and</strong> marking will be introduced to<br />
the participants. During the seminar of the food institute of<br />
Kaunas technological University “Production in one’s farm”<br />
the peculiarities of traditional <strong>and</strong> new dairy production in farms<br />
<strong>and</strong> small enterprises will be discussed. whereas the seminar<br />
“non-traditional use of vegetal raw in the improvement of<br />
food product quality”, organized by the lithuanian University<br />
of Agriculture, will provide for the information on how to<br />
enrich the quality of already present widely-spread products<br />
(bread <strong>and</strong> confectionary) <strong>and</strong> to broaden their assortment by a<br />
larger nutritive scale – thoroughly selected, yet less-spread raw<br />
(artichokes, squashes, pigweeds).<br />
During the seminar “The topicalities <strong>and</strong> experience of dairy<br />
farm management”, the specialists from the stockbreeding<br />
institute of the lithuanian veterinary Academy will review<br />
the aspects of dairy farm management <strong>and</strong> will share their<br />
experience on organization of dairy production in farms.<br />
those who visit the seminar “management of biologically<br />
decomposing waste (BDw)” will find out more about possible<br />
BDw cleaning methods: biogas production, composting,<br />
substrate processing. those who are interested in the ecofriendly<br />
agriculture of foreign states should visit the seminar,<br />
organized by the ministry of Agriculture, environment <strong>and</strong><br />
consumer Protection of mecklenburg-vorpommern, during<br />
which, the participants will get acquainted with the peculiarities<br />
of eco-farming of this l<strong>and</strong>.<br />
many people from the rural areas are now planning to set<br />
wind-plants. the future energy producers are also interested<br />
in the price, building requirements, <strong>and</strong> the provided support<br />
for these plants. thus the interested should find the answers<br />
to all these questions in the seminar “the possibilities <strong>and</strong><br />
peculiarities of small wind-plant development in lithuania”.<br />
golD meDAls AnD exhiBits Are AwAiting the<br />
PArticiPAnts<br />
The best exhibits have been awarded during the exhibition<br />
of agriculture, food <strong>and</strong> package industry AgroBalt ever<br />
since 1995. this year the tradition shall continue – the most<br />
worthy are going to be nominated in the following categories:<br />
food, national heritage, pedigree animals <strong>and</strong> agricultural<br />
equipment. who is going to get a change to swagger about<br />
the gold medals <strong>and</strong> diplomas for being the best exhibits in<br />
AgroBalt 2010? the answer will come out on the very first<br />
day of the exhibition – April 29th. The jury of the competition,<br />
comprising of 4 expert groups (food, national heritage (nonfood),<br />
pedigree animals, <strong>and</strong> agricultural equipment), will<br />
evaluate the exhibits in accordance with certain criteria,<br />
determined in the competition regulation. During the choice of<br />
the best food exhibit, the jury shall evaluate their composition,<br />
nutritional value, technological peculiarities, sensual features,<br />
marketing appearance, eco-friendliness, user reviews, <strong>and</strong><br />
other factors.<br />
During the choice national heritage products, the jury shall<br />
bear in mind if the production method has been transferred<br />
from generation to generation, if the product has been<br />
produced for no less than 100 years, if old technologies are<br />
used (equipment, implements), if the product is produced<br />
keeping the unique traditional features <strong>and</strong> composition of<br />
the process, if the product is widely spread in the country,<br />
<strong>and</strong> so on. in the category of agricultural equipment, various<br />
experimentation results, the conformity with agro-technical<br />
requirements, the technical-economical indicators, <strong>and</strong> the<br />
conformity with the vehicle safety requirements are all taken<br />

into the consideration. in the category of pedigree animals, the<br />
jury minds an overall animal appearance, the condition of an<br />
animal <strong>and</strong> its preparedness for the competition, the productive<br />
<strong>and</strong> reproductive features <strong>and</strong> so on.<br />
with All DUe resPect to the lithUAniAn<br />
vegetABles<br />
the growers of the lithuanian vegetables <strong>and</strong> the lithuanian<br />
greenhouse Associations, surprising the visitors by original<br />
st<strong>and</strong>s each year, are already thinking of the content <strong>and</strong> design<br />
of their expositions in the exhibition AgroBalt 2010. The<br />
growers plan to pay more attention to the visitors along with<br />
an ordinary outdoor vegetable testing this year. even though<br />
there will be no new cabbage due to the lengthy chill this year,<br />
another pleasing surprise will be prepared for the visitors – a<br />
memo, which will not only help to find a required seller of local<br />
vegetables, but will remind of the good nutritional features of<br />
vegetables.<br />

Zofija Cironkienė claims that the Lithuanian growers are<br />
practically the only ones in the whole eU, who do not process<br />
their vegetables with chemicals after harvest gathering <strong>and</strong><br />
before putting them into storage, transporting or supplying<br />
them to the market. true, a less chemicalized production tends<br />
to retain its marketing appearance for a shorter period of time.<br />
Yet, trust in the grower <strong>and</strong> the dem<strong>and</strong> of such vegetables,<br />
promotes the priority of local production.<br />
KeePers of nAtionAl heritAge<br />
The international exhibition AgroBalt 2010 shall bring<br />
quite a bunch of national heritage lovers into Litexpo Centre<br />
of <strong>Exhibitions</strong> soon. The Lithuanian Association of National<br />
heritage Producers <strong>and</strong> composers shall introduce more than<br />
50 certified craftsmen on 29 April – 1 may here.<br />
the production of national heritage is one of the key<br />
elements of nation’s identity. the traditions <strong>and</strong> peculiarity,<br />
the features that make us interesting to the world are fostered<br />
with the help of it. the notion of national heritage includes<br />
quite a lot: traditional cuisine, craftsmen articles, plants,<br />
animals <strong>and</strong> products of old kinds, musical instruments or<br />
even such services as chanting, traditional events, organization<br />
of calendar celebrations.<br />
the visitors of AgroBalt 2010 will be introduced to the<br />
mottled scale of national heritage: the products of ceramicists,<br />
split wattlers, weavers, needle-persons <strong>and</strong> knitters, wool<br />
<strong>and</strong> kersey fullers, toypersons, egg painters, bakers, cooks,<br />
butchers, dairymen, meaders, brewers <strong>and</strong> others.<br />
the interested will have the opportunity to watch how the<br />
craftsmen create national articles, what production processes,<br />
materials or equipment they use. for instance, the equipment<br />
used for cheese making, butter battering, milk separation, or<br />
bread baking. surely, there will be a possibility to consult, try<br />
out one’s abilities, <strong>and</strong> purchase articles made with love here.<br />
the eyes <strong>and</strong> nose of the cuisine heritage lovers will also<br />
be embraced in this exhibition. A huge assortment of meat<br />
production will be suggested here: big sausages, originally<br />
prepared for smoking, smoked ham of various forms <strong>and</strong> sizes,<br />
home-made sausages, rural flitch. the visitors may try out or<br />
buy rye bread, pies, cake-trees, ginger-biscuits, mead, made in<br />
accordance to an original family recipe, sweet milk, wedding,<br />
christening cheese. the willing will have the possibility not<br />
only to try out the brewed bear, but also to join the brewing<br />
process, get acquainted with the old brewing traditions. the<br />
odour of various herbs will not let to pass by. the herbalists<br />
will not only make tea, but also share their experience on how<br />
to gather, dry <strong>and</strong> prepare the herbs properly, what particular<br />
herbs to use for various illnesses.
