Vexilla Regis. It is an homage rendered to the name of<br />

Jesus and to the Cross upon which this divine Saviour<br />

deigned to effect the salvation of the world.<br />

The ANTIPHON of the MAGNIFICAT, which is sung at<br />

Vespers, is taken from the narrative of the Passion.<br />

It conveys the prophetic announcement of the dis<br />

persion of the apostles when our Lord was seized in<br />

the garden of olives, and of the place appointed by our<br />

Lord for meeting his disciples after His resurrection.<br />
