Sunday within the Octave of the Ascension.<br />

During the Octave of the Ascension the chief preoc<br />

of the Church is to MAINTAIN within us THOSE<br />

cupation<br />

SENTIMENTS to which we have been animated BY THE<br />

LITURGY OF THE FEAST. Each day the formulas are<br />

the same, but there is a special Mass for the Sunday.<br />

Throughout the Octave the Antiphon of the Magnificat<br />

implores of Jesus Christ not to leave us orphans, but<br />

to fulfil His promise and send the Holy Ghost to us.<br />

The Church in Rome gave to this Sunday the name of<br />

the Sunday of the roses, because roses were scattered<br />

on the pavement of the basilicas as an act of homage<br />

to Christ who ascended into heaven during the season<br />

of flowers.<br />

The Holy Spirit, the Consoler who is also the Spirit<br />

of Truth, will bear TESTIMONY TO THE MISSION OF<br />

JESUS CHRIST and will give to all His ministers a like<br />

power. Such is the teaching in the Gospel<br />

of this<br />

Sunday. The Holy Ghost will teach men that Jesus<br />

Christ is truly God, who has been sent by the eternal<br />

Father, and that in His Person He has fulfilled all the<br />

prophecies and has accomplished<br />
