Apostolic by the legitimate succession of her Pontiffs<br />

dating from Saint Peter.<br />

In the Secret and Postcommunion we pray for<br />

grace to curb our desire for those things which are transi<br />

tory, and that we may learn to set our affections only<br />

on what will endure for ever. We implore that by the<br />

receiving of the holy Eucharist, our souls may be<br />

renewed and our bodies rendered incorruptible.<br />

In the liturgy of this fourth Sunday after Easter, we<br />

find mingled JOY and SADNESS. The joy appears in the<br />

Introit, which is a canticle of triumph in honour of<br />

the great prodigy of the Resurrection, the remembrance<br />

of which fills the whole earth ; in the verses of the Alle<br />

luia which speak of the Resurrection of Jesus as a de<br />

finite victory gained over death ; again this joy appears
