Wokha is a key supplier of fish in the State because of the Doyang water reservoir.<br />

Scientific fishing, processing, storage and pondage techniques are necessary to develop fishing in<br />

the district.<br />

6.8 Zunheboto<br />

Zunheboto district is situated in central Nagaland and is bounded by Mokokchung district in the east and<br />

Wokha district in the west. It is home to the Nagaland University.<br />

6.8.1 Economy<br />

Data on district wise contribution to Nagaland‟s GSDP is not available. However, district wise<br />

contribution to the agriculture GSDP of the State indicates that as of 2005-06, Zunheboto district made<br />

the lowest contribution to Nagaland‟s agriculture GSDP at Rs83 lakh.<br />

In terms of industrial activity, of the 704 SSIs registered in Nagaland in 2007, Zunheboto‟s proportion of<br />

SSIs was at 7.8 per cent. However, there is a significant presence of the informal sector.<br />

6.8.2Demography<br />

Zunheboto‟s share in Nagaland‟s land area is 8 per cent. However, its share in State‟s population is 7 per<br />

cent. The population density in the district is 112. The district is mostly rural, with rural population at 80<br />

per cent of the total population.<br />

It has a high percentage of tribal population in the State at 96 per cent of its total population. As of 2011,<br />

its total population stands at 141,014. Literacy rate is high at 86 per cent. Population is young, with 39.6<br />

per cent of the population in the age-group of 0 to 14 years and 55.9 per cent of the population in the age-<br />

group of 15-59 years.<br />
