Basketry<br />

Baskets are made primarily by women from cane and bamboo.<br />

The cane baskets of Khonoma village are particularly well known for their intricate weaves.<br />

The cane baskets by the Khiamngan weavers in the Tuensang District are also known for the<br />

Wood-carving<br />

fineness of their work that gives it a lace-like appearance.<br />

• Nagas are known for their wood carving skills. <strong>Skill</strong>ed craftsmen produce works of art such as<br />

village gates and house posts as well as objects of utility.<br />

• One of the finest specimens is found at Shangnyu village in Mon District. The work of art at<br />

Shangnyu consists of a massive wooden panel that has carvings depicting objects of art as well as<br />

those of ritual and utility value.<br />

• The Diezephe Craft village in Dimapur district is specifically known for wood carving works.<br />

Major source of income is from woodcraft only.<br />

Other handicrafts<br />

Other handicraft works include metal works, jewellery and bead work / ornaments and pottery.<br />
