Is My Drywall Chinese?
• When to Test?
1. Testing the air prior to any demolition will establish baseline
ambient conditions.
2. Testing the air during demolition will generate results
skewed due to construction disturbance.
3. Testing the air after demolition/build back completion will
establish post rehab conditions.
4. Testing materials prior to demolition will confirm presence
of Chinese drywall but may not be necessary if odors,
corrosion, and/or visual confirmation are present.
5. Testing replacement materials will confirm drywall is not
Chinese if documentation will not suffice.
Impact to Homes

1. Remove all impacted drywall (both Chinese and non Chinese) as
odors may be absorbed into porous building materials. Cement
board in baths and/or that is tile faced is generally not removed
unless it is necessary to access impacted piping.
2. Remove all impacted corroded metals- including all wiring, HVAC,
plumbing, piping, heating/cooling systems, impacted appliances,
sprinkler heads, door knobs and fixtures. Any corroded metals not
removed will continue to deteriorate even after drywall is removed.
3. Impacted metals include copper, chrome, silver, aluminum, and
possibly stainless. No impact to galvanized seen.
4. Remove all carpet
5. Cabinets/doors-temporary removal for access.
6. Furniture/Mattresses ? (use of oxidizers??)
7. PPE, containment, jobsite controls????
