the capital of satellite and
cable television technologies,
welcoming companies work-
ing in this area from Ukraine,
Russia, Lithuania, Latvia,
Hungary, Poland, Germany,
Sweden, Holland, Denmark
and France as participants of
SAT-TV 1999 exhibition.

during the show
The exhibition took place during not the
easiest time. Economics of several CIS countries,
including Ukraine, was noticeably influenced
by crisis, though resulting in Ukrainian
currency Hrivna dropping two times, compared,
for example, with four-time Ruble's
drop in the neighboring Russia.
Number of the new satellite installations
and new cable subscribers also dropped.
According to a representative of Ukrainian
ROMSAT company, cable operators besides
lacking new subscribers lost big numbers of
old ones, plus having "per subscriber"-income
decreased twice, approximately from 1 USD
from subscriber downto 0.5 USD.
Though heavy rain clouds have closed the
bright sunshine sky for many players on the
market of satellite and cable business, many
have survived, and are developing and pre-

The view over the
SAT-TV 1999 show

situation likely to replace the current crisis in
the not-so-far-away future.
One of the successful steps towards this
