Vocational Rehabilitation: Vocational Rehabilitation approves the curriculum at Merrell University of Beauty Arts & Science for student financial assistance. Student applicant must receive enrollment approval by the Director of Vocational Rehabilitation prior to receiving financial assistance. Veteran Affairs: The Division of Veteran Affairs approves the curriculum at Merrell University of Beauty Arts & Science for Student Financial Assistance. Student applicants must receive enrollment approval by the Director of Veteran Affairs prior to receiving financial assistance. Job Training Partnership Act: The Job Training Partnership for student financial assistance approves the curriculum at Merrell University. Student applicant must receive enrollment approval by the Director of the Division of Job Training prior to receiving financial assistance. CWS: Merrell University no longer participates in the College Work Study program and does not offer any type of employment compensation to be considered part of a student’s financial aid package. Assisting student applicants with their educational funding is a major function of Merrell University. The Director of Financial Aid will provide any information desired regarding student eligibility for any financial aid programs. TRANSFER OF CREDITS Cosmetology program at Merrell University of Beauty Arts & Science are relatively short and considered complete courses. The complete cosmetology course consists of 1,500 clock hours, the manicuring course consists of 400 clock hours, the Esthetics program consists of 1,200 clock hours, and the instructor-training program consists of 600 clock hours. The University does not accept transfer hours for the manicuring and instructor training courses. Transfer “IN” students must meet the following guidelines: 1. Provide the University with a complete transcript of prior attendance of any cosmetology schools attended; 2. Provide the University with a written statement from the Director of Admissions of the last cosmetology school attended including behavior, professional vision, and reason for requesting transfer; and 3. Must not have been absent from cosmetology training more than nine months. A waiver from this requirement must be approved at the discretion of the Director of Admissions. Students are required to use textbooks, student kits, sculptured nail and manicuring kits, lab coats, artificial hand, and one additional mannequin for the State Board examination as prescribed by Merrell. In addition, the tuition for transfer students will be the same charge 10
per clock hour of instruction as other students. The minimum tuition is $1,650 regardless of the clock hours needed to graduate. Merrell University does not recruit students already attending or admitted to other schools that offer a similar program of study. Transfer “OUT” Students: Merrell University will be provided with a transcript of grades and progress report to another school upon written request by the student, provided all financial obligations due the University have been satisfied. The University will furnish one transcript without charge to the student. Additional transcripts are $5.00 dollars each. STUDENT CONDUCT Merrell University of Beauty Arts & Science is a post-secondary institution of learning with a minimum age enrollment of 17 years. The student body is an adult group. Both the administration and faculty respect each student as an adult enrolled to learn professional skills in the field of cosmetology in order to improve their earning ability and provide a better quality of life. Students are expected to cooperate with school officials and function as responsible citizens. Failure to obey school rules is cause for disciplinary sanctions. Such sanctions may be probation, suspension, or possible termination. Dishonesty, insubordination, possession or uses of non-prescribed controlled drugs, cheating, or assisting another to cheat are student violations prompting termination. Any student failing to conduct himself/herself as a responsible individual will be required to receive counseling from school officials to determine whether he/she will be suspended, terminated, or allowed to continue in school under agreed probationary conditions. Any student violating a probationary agreement will be terminated. A copy of the school rules and regulations is given to each student upon commencement of training. STUDENT DRESS CODE All students are required to wear professional dress attire and Merrell University aprons. The following are prohibited: jeans, sleeveless shirts, shorts, denim, sweat pants, and leggings. Students must wear socks or nylons at all times. Professional use of makeup is required of the female students at all times, both in class and in the clinical laboratory. The University is a cosmetology school and great emphasis is placed on personal appearance, this includes dress, makeup, hair care, and personal hygiene. 11
