RE-ADMISSION POLICY After waiting a period of 60 scheduled school days, students may apply to be re-admitted to the institution after being dismissed. Such students will be enrolled on a probationary status with satisfactory progress considered same as date of leave or termination. With respect to financial aid, a student must complete a period of two months with at least 80% average grades for a period before financial aid award will be made. This procedure applies only to dismissals caused by lack of satisfactory progress and will never be granted more than once. It does not apply to voluntary withdrawals. Re-entering students will be charged at the current tuition rates. Amount paid during their first period of enrollment will be credited to their accounts. If a student reenters within 12 months of the withdrawal, the registration will be waived. A leave of absence will extend the student’s contract period and maximum time frame by the same number of days in the leave of absence. Courses in complete repetitions and non-remedial courses have no effect upon the University’s satisfactory progress standards. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Attended School for 13 weeks and accumulated 400 clock hours; 2. Completed all required practical projects and written examinations with a minimum grade average of 80% in both written and practical exams; and 3. Met the clock hour requirements listed in the content of instruction and have all test grades recorded on the on the student progress report. To attest the satisfactory completion of the course the student will receive a personalized diploma from Merrell University of Beauty Arts and Science. COMPLETION TIME Maximum completion time frame is 19.3 weeks from the date of enrollment. This is based on 67 _ % attendance; however, if the school contract is not completed within 579 clock hours the student may continue his/her schooling toward a certificate, but must pay an additional hourly fee. Such fee is the same hourly rate as that charged on the student contract. 40
ESTHETICS COURSE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Prior to enrollment, all applicants must visit the school for a personal tour of the facilities and have a personal interview with the Director of Admissions. New classes commence every other Wednesday and applicants should apply as far in advance of the starting date as possible. To be considered for enrollment an applicant must: 1. Be at least 17 years of age, if applicant is under 18 years of age, then written approval of parents is necessary; 2. Provide a copy of a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate; 3. Provide a copy of a birth certificate, driver’s license, or State ID; 4. Have a personal interview that indicates the applicant meets minimum requirements as to age, physical, mental, and emotional well-being, and also establishes not only a definite interest in a professional career in Cosmetology, but the ability to perform all duties for individual courses; and 5. Be of good moral character, free from any contagious disease, and not dependant on any illicit drugs or alcohol. Merrell University does not participate in the Ability to Benefit Program. COURSE DESCRIPTION This is a course of study in the practice and theories of Esthetics. The minimum length of the course is 1,200 hours, covering a period of approximately 40 weeks. The units of study and the completion requirements exceed those required by the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology. This will allow the student to work in a Day Spa, as a Spa owner, as a Spa manager, in a burn unit in a hospital, as a Cosmetic Surgeon assistant, as a Make-up Artist, Product sales representative, Product Educator, assist Dermatologist, Cosmetic Chemist Assistant. INSTRUCTION At Merrell University, the student learns by seeing, through demonstrations and audio-visual aids, by hearing, with lectures on a wide range of subjects including personal and professional development, and by doing, with actual hands on practical techniques. By adding individual creativity through the artistry of make-up, the student will master the art of skin care and massage. Classes are held Wednesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a 30 minute lunch period. 41
