Course Description:
This is a course of study in the practice and theories of Esthetics. The minimum length of the
course is 1,200 hours covering a period of approximately 40 weeks. The units of study and the
completion requirements exceed those required by the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the 1,200-hour course, the student will have acquired the technical abilities
and the academic theories in compliance with requirements of, and exceeding, the Missouri State
Board of Cosmetology and will have:
1. The fundamental procedures of Esthetic services understood and practiced in preparation
of entry-level jobs in the industry.
2. The knowledge and use of professional products.
3. The ability and skill to practice safe and sanitary procedures.
4. The skill of analyzing skin types, color, and conditions in order to perform accurate
service to the public.
5. The understanding, theoretically and practically, of the use of machines in esthetic
services.
6. The knowledge in determining contraindications of skin with chemicals.
Instructional Method:
The student will learn through demonstrations, lectures, participation sessions, guest artists, field
trip to a professional spa, visual aids, and supervised clinic experience.
